Part One: Teaching Students to Live a Colorful Life Using the Dimensions of Wellness In this interactive session, we will explore the dimensions of wellness. Attendees will be guided through a 4-day unit carefully crafted to deepen the understanding of wellness among their secondary students. We will also cover how the dimensions of wellness complement the new National Health Education Standards. Attendees will leave the session with six engaging activities, which they can use to empower students to enhance their overall health and well-being.
Part Two: A Game of 90 Minutes Attendees will learn how to empower secondary students to take control of their sleep! Using Nick Littlehales' book, Sleep, we'll focus on chronotypes, the cycles of sleep, picking a constant wake time, and recovery in cycles. Attendees will encounter surprising takeaways and activities to challenge and encourage students to explore their sleep habits. As a bonus - it will dramatically improve their sleep, too! CHADS Coalition for Mental Health has been working in the school-based suicide prevention space for almost 20 years. Throughout that time, the agency continues to build on best practices and provide life-saving interventions to children and youth utilizing the evidence-based Signs of Suicide Program and evidence-informed Social Emotional Mentoring Programs. Children and teens need support for their mental and behavioral health now more than ever. This session will give a lens into best practices that schools can utilize on their own and through CHADS Coalition.

This 2-hour American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED training workshop will entail the certification and recertification of Adult, Child, and Infant First Aid Aid/CPR/AED. With the new Missouri law requiring the teaching of CPR to high school students, teaching strategies for how to teach first aid skills will also be included. A certification of completion will be available at the conclusion of the workshop.

Erika’s Lighthouse provides tier-1, teacher-led programs for grades 4-12 that educate students about adolescent depression, encourage conversations to reduce stigma, and teach help-seeking skills while meeting National Health Education Standards. This session will describe how utilizing these programs can have a positive impact on your students and your school’s mental health culture and school climate. Participants will learn how to immediately access and implement these free turn-key programs along with other resources available for staff and families.

When a policy issue arises, participants will use several advocacy tools in their toolbox to effectively communicate and educate community members and policy-makers.
Have you ever wanted to include a project-based activity in your health class? This ready-to-use program is just for you! The project, accessed online, demonstrates the connection between lifestyle choices and their effect on our health. Using case scenarios, student groups research their patients’ health history, symptoms and lifestyle choices that have led to a preventable medical condition (i.e., heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc.) After researching the diagnosis, the team develops a care plan and set goals to improve their patients’ health. Concurrently, students will set a lifestyle goal, then go through the process of making the behavior change. Included throughout the project are activities and scenarios asking students to practice or apply health skills. Lastly, all the resources, training and support you need to facilitate the project are provided for you – AT NO COST!
